Guatemala Medical Mission

When we arrived I was a little nervous about not knowing anyone who had signed up to be a part of the Medical Mission. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but from day one everyone I met on the team was a beautiful soul. Once in Guatemala we went directly to the hospital to unpack our supplies, and to my surprise our work to provide medical care for those most in need got started right away! Three people were already waiting and ready for us to provide surgical care under local anesthesia.

Nothing could have prepared me for my experience today. I worked in a triage center alongside Dr. Nazarian, a highly respected ENT specialist examining people in need from the surrounding villages of Guatemala. Today was all about determining if we could help each person who came to the hospital, and seeing if they are a candidate for surgery. It was emotional to know this was the only chance many would have to be helped.

After two years of being postponed, the Medical Mission to Guatemala is finally underway! Since 2020 our vision of providing medical care to the impoverished families living in the tribal areas surrounding Guatemala City, has been met with extreme challenges due to Covid-19, but our incredible community of volunteers and supporters do not give up!
