Join me and change lives in Guatemala

Hello! My name is Caleb Heathershaw. I’m a Floridian, I’m a reader, I’m the oldest of six kids, and I’m a senior biomedical engineering student at the University of Miami.

I grew up with a mom who was both an incredible teacher and an incredible mom. By becoming a foster family, my family put into practice her belief that every child deserves a loving home and a supportive education. Now, she serves as a special education teacher at a local elementary school. Thanks to her, I have decided to become a professor and continue my family’s mission of teaching. When I learned that my friend was planning this Impact Mission to serve kids at a local secondary school in Guatemala, I knew I had to go.

Think back to the moment when you graduated high school. What did that feel like? Proud? Relieved? Excited? For me, it felt like now I could do anything. Guatemala has one of the highest illiteracy rates in the western hemisphere, with only 50% of kids enrolled in secondary education and even fewer graduating. This means that most Guatemalan kids won’t get to experience a moment like graduation, and won’t have the educational foundation to build a better future.

The Osborne Head and Neck Foundation’s Impact Mission has partnered with a local school in Antigua Guatemala to help them build a kitchen, renovate their auditorium, and complete classroom repair projects. We all know it is impossible to pay attention while sitting hungry at a squeaky desk. Our team hopes to fix this. By improving educational spaces for these kids, we hope to help them stay excited about school and set them up to build a better future.

As part of the Impact Team, I hope to serve these kids and this community. However, I can’t complete this mission alone. I’m asking for your help.

I’ve committed to raising $5,000 towards Medical and Impact Missions in Guatemala. With your support we can change lives.

$1,970 of $5,000 pledged
