Fundraiser Profile
Join me and change lives in Antigua
For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to become a doctor. The decision was greatly influenced by my devotion to math and sciences, as well as growing up seeing my mom working in the medical field. Admittedly, I wasn’t aware of the demanding process that this career choice would entail; however, I’ve taken time to explore the field and I know now more than ever that my passion is giving back to others, and I want to pursue that through the medical field.
Two summers ago, I was given the great honor of being a member of the Osborne Head and Neck Foundation’s Medical Scholars Program. The program gave me clinical experience that not many students have the opportunity to encounter during their high school years. Along with being able to scrub into several surgeries, I gained skills in suturing, knot tying, and utilizing surgical microscopes.
Soon after, I advanced my knowledge of the medical field past the clinical standpoint and into ethics and policy by participating in two international public health internships supporting small clinics in Bauchi, Nigeria, while working on feasible plans to limit the spread of endemic viruses like Malaria. These internships opened my eyes not only to the disparities present in the medical field for minorities but to the lack of attention given to this sector of the medical field.
Last year, I was welcomed onto the 2022 Medical Mission Team to Guatemala. While on this mission, I learned from and shadowed some of the best doctors in the country and I was able to see the change I made in people’s lives by providing them with healthcare opportunities they normally wouldn’t have access to. I made deep connections with the patients there – learning about their journeys through life, children, and work.
I am currently attending the University of California – Davis as a pre-med student majoring in Biological Sciences. Here I have found other opportunities to get involved in my community. I am a member of the Pre-Med AMSA club (American Medical Student Association) where I am involved in the planning and running of events like Blood Drives, Breast Cancer Advocacy and Outreach events, and more!
I now have the chance to join the OHNI once again. On the mission, our goal is to provide safe and unmatched medical attention to individuals who need it most. Supporting this fundraising effort will truly help change lives for the better.
I’ve committed to raising $10,000 towards Medical and Impact Missions in Guatemala. With your support we can change lives.
