Fundraiser Profile

Join me and change lives in Guatemala

My name is Betty Warren and I never thought that I would be in a position to actually go to other countries to help less fortunate people, with my skill as a Surgical Technologist. I currently work for Delaware Outpatient Center for Surgery, located in Newark, Delaware. Where I have worked for the past 16 years, with a total of 22 years as a Surgical Technologist. I worked 4 years at Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children, where I became a part of the Transplant Team among other specialties. I also worked one year at Delaware Orthopedic Specialist, where I also helped with Sterile Processing.

At my current employment, I work with various doctors doing various procedures, from ENT, Plastics, Ortho, GYN, and Urology. I also assist with setting up instrumentation case carts for the following days procedures, as well as assist with sterile processing and cleaning of the colo-scopes. We had a situation several years ago, where one of 2 sterile processing staff had left for another job and the second of the 2 became very ill all at once. The center was talking about shutting down until they could get someone in there to do sterile processing. Myself and another surgical technologist told them that we know what comes in the instrumentation sets and we were willing to give it a go. They threw us in there for approximately 2 weeks and the center didn’t have to shut down. I learned a lot in those 2 weeks, about what my coworkers had to go through. Very humbling experience.

When I’m not at work, I like spending time with my husband, children, and grandchildren. I’m very grateful and humble to be able to embark on such an opportunity as this.

I’ve committed to raising $8,000 towards Medical and Impact Missions in Guatemala. With your support we can change lives.
