What I Am Fundraising For
I am fundraising to gift two scholarships for the Medical Scholars Program, a 3-week, life-changing mentorship program for high school students interested in medicine. I had the privilege to be a recipient of a scholarship for the summer of 2023 and subsequently a Medical Intern, where I had the opportunity to shadow ENT surgeons, gain invaluable skills, and scrub into surgeries.
Growing up, I never understood why my mother was so concerned about seemingly harmless things: dry skin, diet, exercise. It wasn’t until I accompanied her to a hospital visit as a result of her chronic condition that I saw why health was so important to her. I witnessed how the assurance of a nurse or empathy of a doctor has helped ease her significantly. I became determined to dedicate myself to the pursuit of medicine in order to help those like my mother, forced to work past the injuries and illnesses in their life.
Without any familial connections to the medical field, I wasn’t sure where or how to get started, or if I even truly understood what it meant to be a doctor. Participating in the Medical Scholars program, I was enamored by the lives of the physicians I talked to, and inspired by my fellow Scholars. Interacting with the patients, I am still always struck by their incredible optimism and resilience. That summer hardened my resolve to become a physician, and I am forever grateful to OHNI for the unforgettable experiences, life-long connections, and priceless lessons I garnered.
To kick off my fundraising, in March I ran in the LA BIG 5k and organized a team of students, teachers, and family to join in. I will continue fundraising all year until I reach my goal.
Please make a contribution today. Together, we can change the lives of two students through this incredible program.
I’ve committed to raising $15,000 towards student scholarships in the Medical Scholars Program. With your support we can change lives.
